Texas REALTORS® offers the Texas Accredited Commercial Specialist (TACS) certification as a stepping stone to advanced commercial real estate education. And the association is now accepting applications from Black and African American candidates for the TACS scholarship, which cover the three 30-hour TACS courses and application fee—approximately $1,000.
Why Is This Scholarship Important?
According to data from NAR, 82% of Texas REALTORS® commercial members are white and only 3% are Black, making the Black community the most underrepresented within this segment of real estate. This scholarship was built to address equity in commercial real estate and provide educational, financial, and networking opportunities to the recipient. This scholarship is not intended to discount the barriers and realities other marginalized groups face in the commercial real estate industry. Texas REALTORS® recognizes that diversity in the commercial real estate industry has a long way to go and hopes that initiatives like this one will build a pathway to a more equitable industry.
Who is Eligible?
The scholarship is for Black and African American Texas REALTORS® members with less than five years of experience in real estate. REALTORS® who are already in the process of completing the TACS program are not eligible for the scholarship.

I am 73 years old, Asia American, and have 25 years experience as a Realtor . I really think this scholarship program is deeply bios to other races agent and deeply insult to black and African American agents! It is imaged that Black and Africa American agent do not have enough ability to take their responsibility to get the skills they need! This is discrimination! Discrimination! Discrimination! Not reasonable at all!
It is discrimination. It should be open to all agent with less than 5 years experience or no experience in Commercial real estate.

Our country is now divided and racial issues are a big part of it yet you are promoting the black community? Your organization is the problem in our country. Why aren’t you promoting Asian, Hispanic or Caucasian? People are given equal opportunity and race is not a factor, especially in real estate. We are told constantly that we cannot discriminate, but why is this allowed? Personally, I applaud the Association for offering this scholarship. I am not eligible, as I have been a realtor for five years, but I hope that other African American realtors, who meet the qualifications, will take advantage of the opportunity. It’s much better to be in the game than to sit back and complain. Thank you Texas Realtors Association for attempting to address an obvious issue.
